Hagar's new program providing foster care for sexually exploited boys is progressing well. It is challenging all staff to look at new ways of relating to these hurting children as well as looking at our own beliefs and practices.
This group of children with their complex needs and challenging behaviours have largely been marginalized in Cambodia. In response, Hagar is now able to provide comprehensive care for up to eight boys in the centre and eight in the community.
Counseling and social work support is provided by teams, to the child and his family.
We are all learning as we go. Alastar Hilton provides training and supervision for all staff in are in direct contact wiht the boys.
Alastair was commissioned in 2007 to develop the research on the situation of sexual exploitation of boys in Cambodia. You can read his research, "I Thought it Could Never Happen to Boys" here.
